Vivianite is a soft, iron phosphate mineral (Fe₂(PO₄)₂·8H₂O) that forms in a monoclinic crystal system. While it is colorless and transparent when first formed, it quickly oxidizes and turns blue, green, or bluish-green. Vivianite is known for its distinctive color change and can be found in various environments, including phosphate deposits, soils, peat bogs, and as a secondary mineral that forms on or inside fossilized organic material, such as bones and shells.
